DARTS
DARTS manages the resources needed to handle disasters by utilizing the abilities of specially trained pilots, advanced equipment, and state-of-the-art airplanes to position emergency service personnel. DARTS manages response efforts for all natural disasters including wildland fires, hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, mudslides, eruptions, storms, blizzards and avalanches. DARTS is the fastest, safest and most efficient option for transporting equipment and first responders by air.Why
24% of annual firefighting fatalities nationwide occurred in motor vehicle accidents while responding to fires. By transporting firefighters via air, DARTS will ensure the teams safe response to a fire and then safe return home. The disasters that happen most throughout the United States are those caused by wildland fires. These mega-fires have the potential to devastate massive amounts of land. DARTS is prepared to help fight these fires and to control them by providing air support.
How
DARTS was created to be the nation’s first non-profit, airborne, fast-reaction transport team. DARTS is affiliated with and will transport: Wildland Fire, Mountain Search Rescue, Urban Search & Rescue, American Red Cross and FEMA personnel and equipment. There is no other non-profit emergency transport group in the country that can equal DARTS’ ability to respond, support, and transport our nation’s heroes to where they are needed most.501(c)3

We accomplish this mission by using state of the art, well maintained aircraft operated by crews of highly trained ex military and civilian aviation professionals. Our transport system is designed to have the ability to deliver emergency personnel directly to the mission site, on or off an established airport. Because of our non profit status DARTS will also provide this service at a cost far below any other option available.

- History of DARTS

In September of 2005 a non profit organization whose sole purpose is to fly fire, search and rescue, and FEMA personnel into National Disaster areas was developed by Morgan Garvey. The desire to help people and the sense of duty to respond that was brought about by 9/11 and Katrina, can now be realized in the form of Disaster Air Response Teams or DARTS. “I am proud to bring my program to the people of the this great country and to help bring together a coalition of all the special forces in America to respond as fast and a efficiant as possible to National Emergencies,” said Morgan. DARTS aircraft and the professionalism of our crews will be able to deliver far greater speed with than the options that the fire crews are presently using; while not compromising safety or the crews rest rules. The fire crews will be able to deploy and be on the scene of a fire within hours rather than days. The need for DARTS to provide safe and fast transportation is also needed within the Mountain Search and Rescue communities. Because of the distance each team needs to travel, and the difficulty posed by travel within these vast regions, many search and rescue operations are conducted without the people needed to ensure success. This limits the success rate of the operations and the ampount of lives that can be saved. We can change this and we have the people and plans in place to increase the rate of successful missions. The Cessna Grand Caravan is the aircraft of choice for DARTS Inc. It is a rugged day/night/ all weather aircraft that has the capability of landing on rough unimproved airstrips. We will not be limited to the size of airport that we can operate out of, so that we can deliver crews to smaller airports than those used by other commercial options; such as the airlines. Logic dictates that the faster that fire crews can deploy, and the more pressure that can be brought to bear upon the fire, the sooner the fire will be extinguished, the less damage to property will occur, and more money saved by property owners and insurance companies. DARTS’s pilot group is a mix of civilian and ex-military pilots, with total hours of experience ranging from 10,000 to over 25,000 per person. They are all volunteers and are still currently flying for NetJets, United, Delta, Frontier, Southwest Airlines and for the United States Military. Each pilot is volunteering their time and skills and wish only to serve their community, state and country as they have done all of their professional lives. - Mega Fires

In all of our western States, a perfect storm is brewing. The infestation of pine beetles in our overgrown forests has created millions of dry, dead and diseased trees and property development in these areas has gone virtually unchecked. One spark could light a firestorm that could take out most of any state’s forests. It is not only the destruction of the ecosystems and homes that is the major problem but also the danger that these mega fires put on the crews responsible for managing them till the fire burns out.
